new drawing method

Posted in sketches by hsg on the May 30, 2008

After lee yeung viewed my sketchbook, he told me that I should stop using a millions lines to draw, but train to get it right using the first try. So I abandoned my old construction method and went ahead, the result is suprising…

This piece is more of a drawing practice and a study, I have references for them. Image is shown big to show line quality. And I purposely leave the sketchbk binding there to show some RAW powah~. XD

I found that this is actually quite close to the method Daryl has been using. I never thought I could do it, that is, until I tried. =)

This method DOES works much faster, and also looks cleaner with more ’seh’. I particularly like the one on lower left, showing some swiftness and accuracy. Can put down on paper what I can think of quickly. Thank you, lee yeung!! And daryl, I kind of understand how you draw le. =D

However, I would still encourage ppl to use constructions as to better sense of form. Then later can jumpboat to this method.

Now upon discovering this I suddenly got more mood to draw. It’s like one day you discover that holding alt is color pick in PS, makes you wants to paint more. Hahahaha… KK you dogs post something as well.

cheers

and 15 days ago, i met vilppu….

Nah… i saw him in video

Anyway, i gotten his training videos from my colleague quite a while ago. And that time, for the first time, i took a close hard at his strokes. And set, i want that kind of stroke too. So again, i drew some stuff here and there, and realized that i lacked form in what i draw. So yea… that sucked. Going back to basics, anatomy.

brief summary of stuff a month ago, the last post was stuff about two months ago :)

after drawing here and there on a4, i attempting some drawings on newsprint. Sad to say but, it was extremely frustrating and draining. Every time i drew, i got a feeling that im going in a wrong direction. So hmm… im super passionate about charcoal drawings, my suckyness with charcoals or conte is really putting me off. Stopped for a few days for some thinking.

P.S. my bad for the rotated pics. Tilt ur heads people, lol

lx drawings…

Posted in sketches by lxcg on the May 1, 2008

well, these drawings pretty much sums up the time i spent in the first month after i graduated. Juggling between work and drawing, i did some drawings half asleep, some turned out ok, some hideous. Filtered some decent ones. approx. one hour a drawing, or maybe less cos some i ran of patience to continue. Ill post some charcoal sketches next week, cant seem to find my camera….

P.S the top left piece is a life study. hit rate 20% man, the rest turned out to be rather obscene faces, so left unposted. the others are copied from sculptures
